Blake Selby was born April 4, 1990 in Traverse City, Michigan. At age 11 he started writing and performing rap music. At age 18, he moved to Lansing, Michigan and within a year he released his first album "Down 2 Earth", which was a commercial failure, selling only a few hundred copies. Frustrated, he took a 3 year recording hiatus to refine his skill. During this time he did a slew of live performances in the greater Lansing Area opening up for artists like One Be Lo of Binary Star, as well as competing and placing in several rap competitions.

After writing more than 100 tracks, he sought the help of Glenn Brown (a well-known producer for Eminem and Kid Rock). 6 months later the Northern Hype E.P. was released. During production of his E.P. he met up with Pontiac artist Shadi Beidoun and together they formed Northern Hype Entertainment. Their goal was to create a professional network for up and coming Michigan artists.

The "Northern Hype E.P." sold a few hundred copies in the first 10 days and brought with it a firestorm of live shows, opening for Esham, Motown Rage, and headlining multiple times at various clubs in the greater Lansing area.
