Travis Turner was born in the Mountains of East Tennessee, USA, and began his musical journey at age 9 with a guitar given to him by his parents. His passion for music continued to grow and two weeks after his 18th birthday he formed his first “real” band called “FoxFire”. With only three members at first, FoxFire was very successful and became well known in the area, playing shows, clubs and plain old honky-tonks. They had an odd mixture of 50's rockabilly that was definitely influenced by Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and a host of other early rockers. Then there was a good selection of traditional country plus the top ten hits that are usually popular with the younger crowd. The members of "FoxFire" soon swelled to six, including a sax man and a lady keyboard player. Now they could really rock the house!! The band developed a good base of followers during their years on the club and show circuit, and the crowds grew.

But things change and Travis had to choose between his construction business and music...and he chose construction. But he always missed the music...and after a very long hiatus, the urge to write and play was too strong to resist. Writing songs since a teenager, Travis decided that rather than going back to the club circuit, he would arrange and record on songs he had written and see what happens. That is when Travis & The James Gang was born. Travis Turner on guitar and lead vocals, Mike James on steel guitar, guitar, harmonica, bass and piano, Jeremy James on piano and organ, Bongo James on drums, and "SaxmanDan" Mankin (Travis’ old "FoxFire" band mate) on sax and some backup vocals...that’s the crew! And what these veteran musicians turn out is sweet to the ear! Rockabilly and country never had it so good. And some of Travis’ songs are so sad....they could bring a tear to a glass eye! But the rockers are sly and sometimes funny, but always on target. There is a certain “rawness” about their work, but it’s refreshing. There is nothing “canned” here. It’s all real!!
