Whetzel's genius, like that of a great chef or perfumer, is in combining the disparate. For instance, he practices Tuvan throat singing with English words to a West African rhythm, and plays palmwine guitar style with sarod and a tabla beat. Moods run the gamut from cheery and boppable to meditative and otherworldly.
