The Knockabouts formed in Huntsville, USA in 1982 and split in 1986. They were one of Alabama's first Hardcore bands, sharing the distinction with Birmingham's Blue Cheer-meets-thrash Grossest National Product (GNP), one of Alabama's other Hardcore originators who still play to this day. The Knockabouts played inventive old school Hardcore along the lines of Circle Jerks with a UK vocal influence and Surf-influenced guitar.

They released a studio demo called Angry Young Men that was copied on the singer's tape deck with a live set on the flip called Aggressive Isolation. This prompted Toxic Shock records to include their track "Where's My Vietnam?" on the Barricaded Suspects compilation LP, giving the Knockabouts their only original vinyl appearance. Toxic Shock offered to do a 7" at the time but it never materialized due to lack of places to sufficiently record their type of music in their area (the difference between what/how they were able to record and the aggro live material explains this perfectly). Another copied tape of different live material with Mobile Band Dispersion on the flip side was also released.

San Francisco-based Prank Records released a 7" of eight songs from their demo in 1995. Their music was fast and tight and memorable. Their song's lyrics were demented, angry and centered on the dissatisfaction, alienation and isolation of the Deep South. Read more on Last.fm.
