Messenger Down is the stage name and musical outlet of Charlotte, NC based alternative pop artist Garrett Foster. Pairing raw instrumentation and soaring melodies with electronic soundscapes and pop sensibility, Foster creates a diverse and eclectic sound that seamlessly dances between synthpop, indie rock, alternative R&B, emo, hip-hop, and funk.

After spending most of his late teens playing alongside friends in local bands, the singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist found himself most passionate about the songs he was writing on his own. With no immediate plans to start booking shows and performing, he debuted Messenger Down in 2012 with a handful of upbeat, pop-punk inspired singles online. By 2013, Foster and a group of his closest friends began regularly playing across the Carolinas and surrounding states, cementing his stage name as a staple within the local and regional scene. Alongside a rotating cast of musicians featuring now-members of Never I, Ghosts Again, The Chroma Divide, and The Second After, Messenger Down self-released two EP's (2013's The Gentleman's Guide to Keeping Away from People Like You and 2014's What Should Have Been Said), toured up and down the east coast playing everything from basement shows to festivals, and even wound up performing on the Charlotte date of the Vans Warped Tour for three consecutive years from 2013 to 2015.

A shift in momentum and membership within the core group around him left Foster on his own again as long-time members found themselves moving onto other projects in late 2015. Without skipping a beat, Foster began reinventing himself by incorporating elements of hip-hop and electronic music into the primarily alternative pop-rock sound found on his previous releases. In 2016 he debuted his newly discovered sound with the EP Cheating Death and returned to a steady schedule of local and regional performances.

Foster has spent 2017 and the early months of 2018 recording a stockpile of new music with Greensboro, NC based producer, engineer, and Sixlight mastermind Rob Endling. In March 2018 the first of those songs came to fruition with the edgy, alternative R&B inspired single "Where You Been?," followed by the smooth and melancholy "Ride" in May. With what one can only assume to be an album on the way for 2018, it would be wise to keep your eyes on Messenger Down. Read more on Last.fm.
