Dan Louis and Mosquito-B
Born in Quebec City, Dan is the youngest of four and was bathed in classical music from his father at an early age, then was immersed in ‘rock’n roll by his oldest brother. At 7, his favourite song is Bohemian Rhapsody and he has access to the family turntable. The album ‘The Game’ would be a major influence in his musical career and at the age of 12, the songs from the Queen album will be his apprenticeship to his first bass guitar. In the years to come, his major influences will be The Beatles, The Cure, Fleetwood Mac, New Order, Rush, Yes, The Who…and many more diverging sources. It is all by himself that he learns the bass guitar, guitar, piano and drums. Like everyone at an early age he plays with so many groups that their names have all long been forgotten. At 18, he has decided to work only on his compositions. His father, convinced of his talent, would even offer to finance some time off from school to help him achieve his dream career…Dan refuses an goes to University, knowing quite well the precarious situation that young musicians have to endure…but, in the back of his mind, he knows very well that he will return to music one day not too far. A few years later, after founding an advertising agency and having to deal with all aspects of creativity, the passion for music is still raging in. From 40 songs in his repertory, he independently records 13 of them and releases the french album « Si j’te dis » (If I told you). A major breakthrough never came, but he gets some airplay and his touring takes him as far as Winnipeg. He writes songs for Quebec’s chanteuse Elle and prepares a second opus, « Le Sparadra » , that would generate 5 singles in the province of Quebec even reaching the No :1 spot on some stations (including Bande à part on CBC). He keeps busy, even touring with Samantha Fox, doing back-up vocals. For « Raid », his first English record he teams up with producers Marc Durand (Men Without Hats, The Box) and Fred St-Gelais (Marie Mai and some Canadian Idols). Raid his showing a matured and more focused Mosquito-B; songs ranging from the pop ‘Love after all’ to the incandescent ‘Raid’. This album shows the depth of Dan Louis as an author/composer and the versatility and coherence of his music.
