Motara are a 6 piece melodic metal band from a small town in South Africa called Grahamstown. The members met while studying at University. The name Motara is taken from a prominent University official who clashed with a band member over a practice space. Motara are known for their technical approach to song composition, but also for their satirical approach to the ideology and lyrical content of the metal genre. Motara recorded their demo EP "Talbragar the Viking" in late 2007 which is available at www.myspace.com/motarametal.

The band lineup has changed many times since 2006 with many musicians standing in as bassists and vocalists. The original line up consisted of: Richard Peirce (vocals), Rudy Gryvenstein (Guitar), Thorsten Schier (Guitar), Bruce Mcnabb (Bass) and Gareth Lloyd (Drums). Since then, Chris Hartley has joined on Vocals. Stand in musicians include Gary Nixon (Bass), Mike Deall (Bass), Avi Cohen (Vocals) and Nicolaas Kroone (Vocals). Read more on Last.fm.
