Hermes Nye (February 11, 1908 – January 1, 1981) was an American folksinger and attorney. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Nye later settled in Dallas, Texas, where he became known for his involvement in American folk music as well as his work as a practicing attorney. In addition to his legal career, Nye was a folksinger, folklorist, novelist, and local activist. During the 1960s folk music revival, he authored a guide to folk songs titled How to be a Folksinger; How to Sing and Present Folksongs; or, The Folksinger’s Guide; or, Eggs I Have Laid. Nye's contributions played a role in the preservation and dissemination of American folk music traditions. Read more on Last.fm.
