Monopot were a post-rock/slowcore band from Bergen, Norway active from 1998-2002, where they were alongside Ai Phoenix and Sister Sonny as part of a small Bergen indie rock scene. Following a first, 1998 vinyl release called "Zoon" (recorded by Norwegian music legend Pytten and mixed at Bergen's major studio Rec 90), Monopot landed with Oslo-based Smalltown Supersound for their two LPs, "Something Is Like Nothing Was" in 1999, and "Optipess" in 2002. The former was nominated for Spellemannprisen in 1999 in the rock category.

Their style across the two albums was a glacial, straight-line approach to rock music, haunted by sparse, poetic vocals. Their songwriting aspect and drumming should be compared to Codeine or Low, but the mix is filled out in ways reminiscent in places of Bark Psychosis' heavy tremolo, in other places of the 'space rock' aspects of Duster. Though some songs on the first LP, "Something Is Like Nothing Was," built into crashing mid-gain passages like Mogwai ("Sundried," for example), this aspect is altogether gone on the second LP, where the band is altogether haunting, sparse, slow, nocturnal, full of self-oscillating noises, like distant machinery speeding away.

Despite solid critical reception, little about the band made it online. Either nothing was written or nothing remains of their retirement in 2002. At some point between then and 2012, they regrouped and started a series of three albums as Beta Man- "Biway" in 2012, "I Want to Live With a Hypnotist" in 2014, and "Gurney Bubble" in 2017.
