There is music in Mike's family. His mother sang in the church choir, and his grandfather played and taught a number of instruments. Listening to his brothers’ old 45’s, he would memorize the words to all the songs, but never had early aspirations to play musical instruments. It was the words he was most interested in, and he was writing poetry in grade school that Sister Robert Mary said was “a little different” for a good catholic boy. During the renaissance of music in the 60’s and early 70’s, he was most attracted to the softer folk music of Boston and Greenwich Village, but also enjoyed the likes of the Southern California bands and blues from the deep south. He didn’t get his first guitar until he was 17, and wrote his first song at maybe 18. College was a “study all day, play all night” affair. He formed a duo with long time friend Marc Mattix, and they hit the bars and coffee houses. (Eventually Marc taught him piano and violin, but Marc won’t admit to it.) Now a veterinarian and established zoo animal pathologist, Mike has recently rekindled his taste for performing. Angels Wear the Strangest Clothes is his first studio CD, basically a lyrical country blues, with some rock and folk undertones. Read more on Last.fm.
