Back in 1988 Wolfgang and Erich decided it was time for a change - after playing several years in a local hero progressive-trash-metal band called "The Hammers" something new had to be discovered, not less complicated but more melodic and fluent. So the signs were right, it just seemed none of them knew what they were searching for. The real change came with Wolfi's six week trip to America: inspired by the deep impressions of the new world and the interesting theories of Erich v. Däniken he started to work on a song: "High Wheel in the sky" (part one as it was called later).

Back in Germany the work on the new material immediately started: the "New H. Project" was founded and rehearsed on Wolfi's new ideas. But as the group didn't manage to create the new sound the songs needed, they split up short after their foundation. So maybe nothing would have happened - if Uli had not shown up. After knowing each other for several years the three discovered a common sense of music, humour and life in general - and the idea to form a band together was born (1989). Just after a few hours of rehearsal they knew that something really exciting had started, and after long discussions a name for the whole thing was found: "High Wheel". Within a few weeks a full two hour set was composed, arranged and rehearsed - and presented live on stage.

But right from the start there was a new problem: as keyboards were basically integrated in the new sound, anytime a hand was free sounds had to be switched or chords had to be played. A fact that diminished the ability to "perform" live on stage a lot. And as they regarded themselves always as a "live act" (those who saw them play on stage will definitely agree to that point) a fourth member was seeked and found in Lobi, a friend from high school and accordion-player, who didn't feel very comfortable at first with being assimilated by a rock-band. But after a few drinks and getting a keyboard for free (bought by the other band members) he couldn't resist (1991). And after a few sessions together everybody in the band was sure "that something really magic" was born (as Erich once put it).

Since then lots of gigs have been played, four studio albums have been
produced and lots of dues had to be paid, but they still feel the "magic"
and keep the wheel turning. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
