Public Domain is a name used by multiple musical acts across various genres and regions. The following are notable examples:
1. Public Domain is a trance and hard dance group from Ayr, Scotland. The original members were James Allan, Mark Sherry, and Alistair MacIsaac. They formed the group with the idea that their music would be released under a "public domain" license. The group gained international attention with the single "Operation Blade," which reached number five on the UK national charts and achieved platinum status in Australia. After signing the track to Slinky, they brought in Mallorca Lee as a frontman. At the time, Mallorca and David Forbes were working on a separate project, which they paused to contribute to the album "Hardhop Superstars." Following a world tour in 2001 and 2002, Mallorca and Forbes returned to solo work. Neil Skinner (MC Cyclone), a longtime friend known for his work with Dyewitness, later joined the group. The current lineup consists of James Allan, Mark Sherry, and Neil Skinner. Public Domain continues to tour and work on new material, with recent appearances including a tour in Japan and a performance at Coloursfest in Scotland.
2. Public Domain is a hardcore/skate punk band from Vienna, Austria, featuring former members of the defunct UK hardcore band Dead Swans. They released a five-song demo in June 2013.
3. Public Domain is a Dutch hardcore techno and gabber act known for appearances on labels such as Thunderdome, ID&T, and BZRK Records. The act includes Jorn Hanneman and Francois Zoontjes and has also released music under aliases such as DJ Francois & Jeremy, Gabbaheads, Sons Of Hardcorps, and Sunday's Limit. This act is not to be confused with the Scottish Public Domain known for the track "Operation Blade."
4. Public Domain is a melodic rock band that featured Billy Trudel on vocals, David Young on keyboards and backing vocals, Bruce Watson on guitars, mandolin, and backing vocals, Larry Antonino on bass and backing vocals, and Matt Laug on drums and percussion. The band released one album titled "Radio Nights" in 1998 through MTM Music. Although released from Germany, the album was produced, mixed, and engineered in Woodland Hills, California. Additional musicians included Stuart Mathis, Cameron Stone, Roland Hartwell, Jimmy Haun, and David Eisley.
5. Public Domain is also used as a general term for music released without an artist’s name and not under copyright protection. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
