This song comes at the end of a traditional Scottish wedding with the rejected young man, from marrying his only truly love, threatens to leave the village of Brigadoon as a revenge. We that to happen, the spell of Brigadoon who awakes each day to a hundred years later, would be broken, and everything and everyone would vanish in the highland mist of Scotland forever.

All the townspeople pursue Charlie (the young man seeking to escape Brigadoon) by trying to cut him off at the brook, the bridge, the woods and any means possible before he crosses the boundaries of Brigadoon. Sadly, but fortunately for the townspeople and for the leading couple who have fallen in love, Charlie is accidentally shot by one of the American visitors who is caught up in this "miracle" spell. The American mistakes Charley who was hiding in a tall tree for a grouse, and since the American was in Scotland to do some hunting, the accident ends the fear and threat for the village of Brigadoon.
