In 2001 the APOCALYPSE RADIO record “ONE MORE REVOLUTION” was made in a shitty little rental house in Orem, UT on an 8-Track digital recorder. Apocalypse Radio began in 2000 as 2 friends (Branden Steineckert and Brian Patchett) who took their love of punk rock and writing/recording and put it into a cheap digital 8 Track recorder. The record came together combining efforts from both Brian and Branden. They’d work out a song idea, track it roughly on Brians 8-Track. Then they would track it all on Brandens 8-Track. Branden would play a drum track, then Brian would play the bass track, then Branden would play his guitar parts and a couple leads, Brian would record his guitar parts, solos and leads…topped off by both guys singing.

“It was all just for fun, but we liked what we were creating. So we got a few friends to play with us and we played live shows all throughout 2001″. After the release of this D.I.Y record in 2001 and a handful of shows things started to slow down as Branden and Brian both had other projects and things going on. Brandens other band at the time (The Used) made their debut album and began to tour heavily making it hard to continue playing A.R. shows. Brian later joined a band (Broke) and toured, made a record as well. Branden is now the full time drummer of Rancid (one of the bands biggest influences who’s song “The Sentence” is where the band name- Apocalypse Radio came from).

“We recently decided wanted to share some of the music we were making just for the hell of it on our 8-tracks. Sometimes the most honest, real art is when it’s made with no intention of anyone ever hearing it. Just doing it for the right reasons…the love of music! There was no myspace, facebook, no record deals, just a couple instruments and an 8-track. We had no intention of getting this out to the masses… but now we’re sharing it with you.” said Steineckert about the recent re-release of the 2001 “One More Revolution” album, that is now available on iTunes.

Now it’s 2010 and in the same D.I.Y spirit the two have come together in any free time to write and record a brand new self titled APOCALYPSE RADIO album all on their own again. But this time they didn’t record it on an 8 track. The album was recorded at Brandens studio in Orem, UT: Unknown Studios (where the latest Rancid record “Let The Dominoes Fall” was written and demos were recorded). No labels, no management, no budget, no rules, no expectations. Just 2 small town punkers recording what ever they want because it felt good and was sincere.

“We wanted to write, record an album on our own again with no mission statement in mind…. just going with our gut and putting it all down with no limitations. We are very proud of this album and we have worked extremely hard. We couldn’t care less if anyone else likes it, cause we do! That was the only objective. To do something on our own we could be proud of! We don’t want to limit ourselves to anything, we wanted to release this on cd as well as on iTunes so that we could share our music with anyone else who may appreciate it. For those who like it and support us, we thank you! For those who don’t, we don’t give a shit!” -Apocalypse Radio Read more on Last.fm.
