Elliot Brown is a 26 y.o. alt-country songwriter from the North Island of New Zealand. General themes running through his songs are poverty, alcoholism, and ''general wretchedness''. His songs are generally recognizable for short-phrases and simple melodies. Several reviews of Brown's songwriting, albums, and live performances are readily available on the internet.
Brown has released two solo albums, Delirium Tremens and Road To Destruction.
Delirium Tremens gained considerable air play on alternative stations around the world, especially in the U.S., Canada, and Great Britain, as well as alternative stations within his home country, New Zealand (including BBC Radio, Headcase Radio, Radio New Zealand National, Human FM, Kiwi FM, 95bFM, Radio Boudaki, IM Radio 2.0). Tracks from Delirium Tremens were used in film soundtracks, TV series', and advertizing (BBC), and have been covered by alt-country bands around the world.
Along with official music videos, several (both amateur and professional) music videos have been made for various of Brown's songs.
Brown has openly encouraged any film-maker who is willing to make music videos for his songs.
Brown has shared the bill with popular New Zealand acts such as Sam Hunt (the poet), Chris Knox, Kora, Anika Moa, Dane Rumble, Six60, 1814, and has toured with bands such as OpShop and Sharpie Crows in the past.
Brown was in a touring two-piece alt-country band, The Stomps, with musician and producer Jackson Hobbs. Both Brown and Hobbs began working on separate projects after touring the North Island of New Zealand for a year, but still occasionally record together. Together they began the underground label Sailor Mouth Records with Brown being in charge of promotions and Hobbs being in charge of production. Since its inception several bands both in New Zealand and Australia (with Hobbs being temporarily based in Melbourne) have worked with the label. One project with which Hobbs' was involved was the popular underground band Sharpie Crows. Hobbs' produced and created the bass for Fire On The Weather Bubble, which is featured on Road To Destruction.
Brown is currently based in Northland, New Zealand where he continues to record and collaborate with other alt-country musicians including, most recently, Dave Khan, Hariet Ellis, Fred Renata, and Jackson Hobbs.
Four of the tracks on Road To Destruction were from a live studio performance at York Street Studios with Campbell Duncan producing. Duncan saw Brown play at the recent Selective Soundz festival in Northland and wanted to re-capture the ''live'' feel of the set list played there.
Producers with whom Brown has collaborated recently are Deniel Barnes, Campbell Duncan, Jackson Hobbs, Albi, and cousin Leroy Brown (also an alt-country musician). Owing to recent donations of recording gear by supporters, Brown has been able to begin self-recording.
