I recently retired from the US Army after over 23 years, mostly as a Guitar Player in various US Army bands and I am a now a full-time student at Old Dominion University. My focus for the past few years has been on composition and arranging and I hope to continue and expand upon that. I’m not intent upon “making it big” as a performer; I have a much greater interest in the composition and publication of my original music.

I’ve a lot of musical irons in the fire at any given moment. Foremost among these is the completion of my upcoming album Tales of a Life Beyond Me (several tracks of which are already available), an eleven-song cycle in about choices and personal evolution through the crucible of those choices. I think of the style of this album as “distilled progressive rock” in that it incorporates the expected elements of progressive rock such as odd meters and exotic modalities but with a songwriting sensibility that eschews long pointlessly narcissistic instrumental breaks and solo excursions; it’s all about the song itself. I am currently working on an album of guitar-based instrumentals with Scotland’s Al “Lavaman” Murdoch (of “Navigation” and Nascent Echo” fame, see Tales…) titled MurdRuss Intentions, songs from which might be available as early as April 2011. I am also working on several other projects with numerous other local and global musicians in various genre-defying styles.
