Jeff Platz is a Boston area guitarist composer.
Born and raised in the industrial suburbs of Cleveland Ohio. Platz began his musical career playing guitar in local Cleveland area punk rock bands in the late 70’s. Eventually he relocated to the East coast where he began studying jazz music, writing and composing for small groups and performing throughout New England.
In 2001, Platz toured Europe with the Boston based band Lars Vegas. He has performed in various music festivals world wide such as New York city’s “What is Jazz” festival, the “Heidelberg jazz festival” in Heidelberg Germany, and Amsterdam's” Crossing Borders” festival to name a few.
The Berlin based music journalist Wolf Kampmann writes, “Platz’s music is generous although never accidental. The secret of its uninhibited quality lies more in Platz’s playful use of the familiar where intuition, feeling, and memory are the most important navigational instruments”.
In November of 2005 he organized the first U.S. based Skycap Music festival which featured recently ecorded Skycap artists such as Joe Morris, Steve Lantner and The Fully Celebrated Orchestra. Currently Platz records for the German based label Skycap Records and has released recordings by his groups Skull Session, and Bright Light group. Read more on Last.fm.
