From the righteousness that comes with a fresh new sound, allow your ear drums to surf on the waves of Abrasive Method a.k.a. A.M., the Michigan-based rap duo. Reluctant front-man Charlie Beans, a Full Sail graduate, sound engineer, music producer and rugged rap singer paired up with childhood friend Tony Franks many moons ago to form Abrasive Method.

A.M. released their Freshman Album “4 A.M.” in 2004 with singles “Bourban”, a suburban spoof rap anthem and “No Shows”, a smooth flip-the-bird track to people who claimed support but were nowhere to be found. Warranting attention, these two youths were gathering the reputation for being honest beer swilling, party animals with a new sound the Detroit scene hadn’t heard before. There was no front, these guys came to party and entertain the crowd with an onstage presence compared to Method Man and Redman.
Continuing the hustle, A.M. never stopped doing shows or recording new material. With a more mature mindset, Beans and Franks nurtured their craft and gave birth to their sophomore album, “The Most Dangerous Game: Rock, Paper, Scissors” in 2006. “The Most Dangerous Game” offered what the popular single A.M. ever produced, “I Just Want to Drink My Beer”, a party anthem with a sing-a-long hook that even the most straight edged punk rocker couldn’t help but sing. That, along with “Bad Guy” and “It Goes To Show” proved that even though these guys were two party driven jokesters, they also had a deeper alternative side, filled with plenty of introspect.

In recent years, A.M. has evolved, finding their true unique sound. In the digital, file sharing world we live in today, and after years of stockpiling material, Abrasive Method released a free album entitled “Lucky #13″ in 2008 that they hosted on their website. “Lucky #13″ provides the full spectrum of what A.M. is all about, women, alcohol, music and life. The unique sound has matured, the raps are cohesive, the subject matter is relevant and these two aren’t afraid to let you into their personal lives.

With a love/hate relationship with life, garnished with savvy lyrics and on-point production, Beans and Franks are blazing a new trail of music. Their highly anticipated project “Living a Nightmare, Chasing the Dream” certainly will display their progression as song writers and performers. Released at the beginning of 2010, A.M. hopes to establish a fan base outside of Michigan through touring and promotion.
From what A.M. has produced in the past combined with their ability to stand steady on the proving grounds of the Detroit music scene, “Living a Nightmare…” should be the best piece to date.
