Black Letters is a four-piece alternative rock band from Cochin, formed in 2008. The current line-up consists of Sharath Iyer (vocals, guitars), Akash Chacko (drums), Sarang Menon (guitars) and Arjun Radhakrishnan (bass). The band, initially called Rome and then Surfacing, finally settled on an alternative sound sometime in 2010 and rechristened itself Black Letters. The band has performed at various events and competitions, garnering accolades and gathering appreciators. They had released a four-track EP, Snippets in 2010, but dumped it after change in the group’s sound. Black Letters is working on its debut full-length album at the studio of Motherjane vocalist Vivek Thomas, scheduled to release this year.

The formation of the band occurred when high school mates Akash Chacko, Tarun J.Martin and Sarang Menon decided to take their musical interests to a more professional level. The trio started jamming at Akash's house for weeks searching for a front man which the band found in their longtime friend Sharath Iyer. The band played alternative metal before finding their own sound, post which, they started playing live music. Soon after the recording of their EP, the band's long time bass player Tarun left for Australia. Arjun Radhakrishnan filled the position leading to their current line-up. One of their earliest materials, an old rock number titled ‘You Say’, has been featured on the OST of a Malayalam film, Anchu Sundarikal. The Black Letters are fast on their way playing gigs and festivals, and are a featured artist of the GoMAD and NH7 Weekender Festival, 2013. Read more on Last.fm.
