The Blackstone Rangers are a "distorto-pop" trio that formed in Dallas, Texas in 2010. The band comprises Ruth Smith (vocals, synth), Derek Kutzer (guitar, vocals), and Dan Bornhorst (drums).

Their debut EP, Into the Sea, was released in June 2012 by North Texas cassette label Dallas Distortion Music. It was a regional hit, quickly selling out and garnering second and third pressings, making numerous best-of-2012 lists. After touring through spring 2013 and digitally streaming the lush new single, “Frozen Echo,” they caught the attention of Saint Marie Records, who will release the trio’s forthcoming record, Descendant. 2013 definitely bared fruit for the band, giving official selections to NXNE (Toronto), SXSW (Austin), Index Fest (Dallas), and 35 Denton, but the outlook for 2014 looks even better.
