The Sundog Project is the musical alias of Ian R. Johnson.

Ian lives happily with his beautiful wife Hannah and son Gabriel in the leafy town of Cheltenham.

Parking in Cheltenham is ample and the shopping is nationally praised.

Ian and family like Cheltenham.

Life has not always been so easy......

Ian’s life was changed forever when, at the age of 9, he was interviewed by Noel Edmunds as a potential candidate for ‘Noel’s House Party’.

............He was not selected............

Ian sought to fill the unspeakable void with heavy metal, Newcastle Brown Ale and Marlboro Lights (apparently the reds aren’t good for you....).

Around this time, he also began to develop a fascination for experimental electronica and this fascination became, over time, a passion; a love affair with the darker corners of machine music.

Having spent too many years listening to the Warp back catalogue and developing an unshakeable feeling that something was not quite right with the world, Ian decided to try to put things back in order.

Too much chin stroking and listening to hours of unrelated clanks and squalls has given rise to something altogether more palatable; melodic and sentimental while still keeping one foot firmly in the door labelled ‘glitch’.

Ian’s musical explorations first appeared in the early 90’s, as he played guitar in various heavy metal bands before joining dark, goth/groove rockers, Threshold in 1996; a band held together not by their love for each other, but for the love of defunct noise merchants, The God Machine........

The frustrations of trying to organise 4 people who didn’t want to be organised saw the end to this project in 1998 and there followed a musical hiatus..........

The Sundog Project’s first demo, ‘Save Me From The Numbers’ was released in the summer of 2006 and, while unrefined in comparison with current tracks, showed signs of the music that you will soon come to know and love....

In December 2007, the ‘Sundog’ demo was released – containing two tracks: ‘Twin Suns’, a melodic piano led piece of electronic niceness, and ‘Never Again’, a Ministry-fuelled thrash-out glitchfest......

‘The Hollow Earth Theory’ followed in early 2008. The self titled lead track was inspired by historical lunatic ramblings about a civilisation living inside the core of the earth, while the other track, ‘Pluto and Proserpine’, was an early draft of the track that you can hear on the ‘At Night’ EP.......which brings us nicely up to date........
