Hey. We're The Blue Sky Secret. In case you don't know who we are, we just thought we'd give you a quick background so you'd know a little more about us than you did before.

Ricky Free grew up in the Christian music industry. From starting to play the drums at the age of three, and then picking up the guitar at fourteen, music is all Ricky has ever known. Being no stranger to the stage, he spent 10 years on the road playing drums for the multi Dove Award winning artist Brian Free & Assurance, while also enjoying a career in Nashville, TN as a Grammy nominated session drummer and an award winning producer. But Ricky was like most drummers…. he had a little more to say. So after ten totally awesome years, he felt it was time to step out from behind the drum kit, throw a guitar around his neck, step up to the microphone and… well…let people know what he had to say. So listen to what the man says.

Devin Burrell has grown up in the ministry. His father has been an evangelist and pastor most of his life. Music was always a large part of his family, so Devin was constantly around it growing up. He SLOWLY taught himself to play the drums and guitar and sang along with totally rad cassettes (hey, it was the early 90's). Unlike Ricky, Devin hasn't been cool enough to win any awards… yet. Except he did win first place in the Douglasville Kiwanis Club Talent Show in like 2000. But then he went to the State competition and lost… to a mime.

Isaac Chapman grew up playing the drums. His love for music started when he was only five when his dad sat him on his drum throne, handed him a pair of sticks, and just let him play. Or...... just hit stuff. With his dad being a musician himself, it's only natural that Isaac turned out to be one too. Over the years, Isaac has played with several local bands from his hometown. Isaac joined The Blue Sky Secret in December, 2008.

Will Strickland also grew up being a preacher's kid. Will grew up making music too. He took some piano lessons in second grade and was a pianist for a few years. After that, it was the trombone for a little while. Then when he was twelve he got a bass guitar. Ever since then, Will has been a bass player. More recently, Will has taught himself to play mandolin and acoustic guitar because of his interest in bluegrass music. Will joined The Blue Sky Secret in January, 2009.

So once upon a time Ricky Free and Devin Burrell met and became best friends. Twelve years later, The Blue Sky Secret was born. In 2003, we recorded a demo of a few original songs. As we did more and more, we realized how much we enjoyed it, and then realized, "Hey, we're making a record." But, our timing wasn't right, and everything was put on hiatus for several years. Our songs just sat on the shelf. But in 2007 we decided it was time to start over again. So we pulled out our old songs, and headed for the studio. Then in late 2008, we met Isaac and Will.

So there you have it. We're what happens when four guys, who are born again Christians with the gift of music on loan from their Creator, make the kind of music they love. As Christians, as human beings, we have a lot of stuff to talk about. Everything from: Our Father, to His Son, to love, love lost, love hoped for, love found, to the struggle of crucifying our flesh daily, to society, to faith and hope to… whatever we feel like.
