Taxes was formed when WPP alumni Steve Matheson and Al Boyle started writing songs with Cadeaux alumni Rick O'Dell and Robert Andow. The band recruited Sean Orr previously of Go Go Stop, who began practicing his reference heavy lyrics with the band in a shed in East Van. Soon, Andow would depart to form Gang Violence, leaving Matheson's baritone special as the lead guitar. The band's first show was at a house party with Varge and What's Wrong, Tohei? Other early shows were played with Shearing Pinx, Jaws, Sports, Twin Crystals, You Say Party!, Bison, and Pride Tiger. The band went on hiatus, but recently toured with Bart Records label-mates Stalwart Sons, and Gyre, Spyre, and Spindle. The band cites Hot Snakes, Fugazi, Jesus Lizard, Frodus, Joan of Arc, Les Savy Fav, Make Believe, Joy Division, Liars, and The Beatles as influences. Read more on Last.fm.
