He was born in Switzerland in 1974. He is a graduate of the Music Conservatory in Basel (classical piano with Peter Efler). He was one of the founding members of both the experimental Hip Hop bands "Chapter 12"and "P27" and played in the Klezmer band "Baith Jaffe". Since February 2007 Brodbeck also plays with his "Jean-Paul Brodbeck Trio" the Helsinki Music Club in Zürich every Tuesday. Amongst others, he has been playing with Lionel Hampton, Herbie Mann, David Liebman, Andy Scherrer, Matthieu Michel, Nils Wogram, the Wolfgang Muthspiel 4tet and many more.
