Just Visiting is a rock band that formed in the college town of Geneseo, NY in December 2000. The band currently consists of Johnny Roset Cervini (singer/songwriter/guitarist), Mike Burke (rhythm guitar), Dennis Burke (bass guitar), and Michael Demetrious (drums). The band recorded several demo recordings over the last decade, but finally found the ideal lineup to pursue music as a career. Just Visiting’s self-titled debut album will be released via the independent imprint, Black House Records, LLC in Summer 2011.
The permanent setup of the band is something new, as for almost a decade, the band went through various incarnations with a revolving door of bassists, guitarists, and drummers. Every musician that spent time in Just Visiting, in one form or another, was pivotal in making it easy to spot those that would end up being the permanent, current, and touring version of the band.
The band began when Cervini ended up in the same dorm building as rhythm guitarist, Mike Burke, at the State University of New York at Geneseo. This friendship and common interest shared in the guitar would serve as the basis for Just Visiting for over a decade. Upon graduation, the two went back to their respective hometowns. Cervini was from New York City while Burke (Mike) was from Yorktown Heights in Westchester County, NY.
Under the assumption that something as simple as rehearsals would become a daunting task, Cervini pursued forming a band named “Just Visiting.” However, when demo time came, Cervini knew to tap Burke (Mike) to helm guitar duties. Cervini didn’t have to go far in order to find a competent and creative bassist. Burke (Mike’s) younger brother, Dennis, was available for the demo session that spawned “Life In A Shoebox” and “Glass Of Whine” as English-language singles and “Para Ti” and “Te Prometo” as the Spanish singles.
The band went dormant for a few years as Cervini’s need to survive forced him into the wonderful world of cubicles and 9-to-5 schedules. However, after securing a private investor in December of 2010, exactly ten years after the band’s nucleus was formed in Geneseo, NY, the band was afforded the ability to promote the music, the band, and overall vision with seed capital. Ironically, before securing the investment, and as Cervini was desperately trying to find a day job that would work out, he met Michael Demetrious at New York Real Estate Institute. Both Cervini and Demetrious were pursuing, and successfully attained, real estate licenses in New York State. Upon discovering that Demetrious was a drummer, it became crystal clear to Cervini that Demetrious’ drumming was the missing link to complete the final and current lineup of Just Visiting. Since then, the band has recorded its first full-length music video for the brooding “Glass Of Whine” and is in the process of recording the full-length music video for the pop/rock gem “Life In A Shoebox.”
With the seed capital, Cervini is overseeing strategic alliances with promotional companies, public relations firms, viral video specialty firms, legal and accounting affiliations, and any other third-party companies that can speed up the snowball effect.
Just Visiting is fresh off of an April 2011 interview with “The Ron & Fez Show” on Sirius XM Radio. It was the band’s first exposure to approximately a half-million people in one listening session as both “Life In A Shoebox” and “Glass Of Whine” were played in their entirety. This led to an off-air meeting with Rob Cross, the program director of Sirius XMU, Sirius XM’s university radio division.
The band’s name is “Just Visiting,” but they plan on being around for a long while!
