DREM BRUINSMA a.k.a. BLIND COYOTE, Native Dutch, actually living and working in southern Spain, studied for about 8 years electronic music, sonology and visual arts at different academies in the Netherlands and abroad before becoming a soundman for electronic news gathering. As such he travelled to many countries, within and outside Europe. He moved to Brussels in the early eighties and started a creative production centre there, with a music recording studio at the heart of these facilities. At l’Echo des Montagnes he collaborated a.o. with members of Tuxedomoon, worked as a session musician for various record labels (Crammed, Made to Measure, SSR, SubRosa, Crépuscule, Tindrum) and composed scores for dance performances, documentaries, film, video art projects and theatre.
Drem released a few solo-albums through Materiali Sonori in Italy, Body and Soul/MSI in France, OffWorld in London, and toured in southern Europe with the Greenhouse Effect, Blaine L. Reininger and Steven Brown.
He left for the U.S. in 1991. In North-America he encountered a huge difference between rural life and urban lifestyle and tried to merge the most inspiring elements of both worlds in his compositions and paintings, while also recognizing the fact that he preferred to keep on moving, not settling down. With a small studio set-up in the camper shell atop his old pick-up truck he travelled the southwest and the west of the U.S. for two years and a half, during which time he recorded environmental atmospheres and sound bites that he tailored and integrated in newly written musical tracks. (Eventually he ended up in NYC at the Art Student’s League, where he rediscovered painting on canvas, but that is a whole different story).
In these mostly instrumental pieces he captured images of vast and empty landscapes as well as the urban groove of a city.
Like a soundtrack to an imaginary road movie, EAR TRAVELOGUE (THE U-TURN EYEWITNESS CHRONICLES) takes you on a leisure lounge-trip. Listening is like cruising along on deserted nocturnal highways, getting away from it all, the usual patterns of everyday life, and finding dusty solitude, echoing between steep cliffs of purple rock, or while overlooking the high desert planes...
