Monikkr is the most recent incarnation of Anthony Fonseca, a writer/producer out of Brooklyn, NY. Monikker uses a fusion of rock & roll and electro-pop rhythms to create an edgy, stylistic, dance-floor friendly sound.
Born in Lima, Peru Monikkr's family moved to Prospect Heights, Brooklyn when he was a small child. He came of age during the 80's, at the height of the hair metal era. MTV was just beginning to dazzle audiences with flashy videos and the sounds of Motley Crue, Skid Row, and Ozzy Osbourne played in heavy rotation on the radio. When, at age 13 he was transplanted to St. Petersburg, FLA, he quickly fell in with a rebellious, rock&roll crowd. Heavily influenced by the music of the day and encouraged by a deep admiration for Prince in particular, Monikkr began playing the guitar at 14. He took to it immediately and within a few years was playing gigs with local bands in the area. Once graduated from high school he formed the metal band Colorblind. Shortly after, he and his band-mates relocated to Atlanta, GA where they garnered a modest following and opened for such big name acts as Sevendust & Candlebox.
After spending many years focused on rock and heavy metal, he developed a curiosity for new types of music. In the early 90's, with the electronic movement beginning to seep into the mainstream, he started to explore the world of dance music. In 1992, he experienced his first underground dance party and witnessed firsthand the awesome effect this music was able to have on an audience. Before long he began writing and producing on his own and experimenting with the idea of combining hard rock and electronic music. He began creating what he dubbed “dance rock” tracks, a path that would eventually lead him into the world of DJ'ing.
In 2001 he began appearing at clubs and warehouse parties in the Greater Tampa Bay area under his given name, Anthony Fonseca. Soon enough he was making waves in the scene with his infectious blend of techno-dance, pop and rock&roll. In 2005 he signed with BIG Management and relocated once again to NYC where he quickly snagged residencies at hot spots Le Souk and Sin Sin and made several appearances at Pacha and Webster Hall.
In the past six years, he has released music under various names including Anthony Fonseca and Speakerbox. His many projects during this time include remixes for Avril Lavigne and Monica as well as tracks released with Crystal Waters and Freedom Williams. Always on the lookout for fresh, new music, he continues to work extensively on projects with tomorrows up and comers, using his talents as a musician and lyricist. More recently he has written and produced tracks for Decav 5 and Kaci Battaglia, layering pop vocals over dance beats.
In 2011 Monikkr was born in order to introduce his new musical direction. Heavily influenced by dub-step, the sound of Monikkr is a melting pot of Fonseca's musical experiences over his twenty-something years in the industry. His vision continues to be to combine the many styles that inspire him, whether it be rock&roll and ambient techno, or indie dance beats and electronic pop and create tracks that move an audience. Literally. “My goal,” says Monikkr, “has and always will be to make the audience dance.” If his vast success over the years is any indication, he is certainly on the right track.
