Tarira is a Faroese chamber choir of 20 choristers, all of whom are experienced in choral singing and music in general. The choir was founded in the Spring of 2002 and thus celebrates its 10 year anniversary this year. Faroese composer Sunleif Rasmussen has been the conductor from the start.

Despite the choir’s relatively short history, Tarira’s reputation has already been firmly established through many high level performances both at home in the Faroe Islands and abroad. During its tours in the Nordic countries Tarira has given several highly acclaimed concerts in Denmark, the Aland Islands, Iceland and Sweden.

The choir is assigned to a large variety of jobs: from the ceremonious performance before the Royal Danish Court to rather alternative assignments, such as the cooperation with composer Kristian Blak in connection with his opera ‘Eyðstein and Arnhild”.

During the last two years Tarira has worked together with Faroese singer-songwriter Teitur. Joint concerts have been held in the Faroe Islands and Denmark where the choir premiered his work “Weekdays” for choir and ensemble.

Tarira’s repertoire is extensive and varied, but the emphasis remains on new Faroese and Nordic compositions as well as Renaissance music.

In 2008 Tarira published its first CD, and has also been part of other choral compilation CDs. In 2013 the choir will launch its second CD with many of the same works that are being performed during our tour in the UK in October 2012. Read more on Last.fm.
