Jimmy Silva (1952-1994) was a singer/songwriter who split his time between San Francisco and Seattle. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area during the 1960s. He once said he always considered himself a song writer first and his songs show influence of the Byrds, Beatles, and Beau Brummels, as well as influence from his friends' bands: The Young Fresh Fellows, The Smithereens, the Posies and others. His first band was the Empty Set, his last was The Goats. Jimmy Silva died of chicken pox in the mid 90s at the age of 42. He left behind four albums of songs that range from personal experience to social commentary, from young adult angst to anger at society's ills, from sorrow to joy. His music is sometimes jangly, sometimes lively, sometimes literary, sometimes just plain fun. He had a nice sense of harmony and phrasing. Those two things developed into his unique song writing style. He said that he grew up at a time when artists liked to make each song sound different, and he liked to try to make each song different than his others. His four albums were:
