The Sunset Kings is a Genre-Blurring Indie Rock band based in Boston. Fusing their love for artists with diverse backgrounds & sharpening their musical experience through late night sessions lasting into the early morning, The Sunset Kings revise the traditional Four/Five-piece rock sound with a Six-Piece sonic experience featuring vocals, violin, and saxophone over driving basslines, guitar, and drums. Their unique style of Rock is strung together with soulfully expressive lyrics and melodies with jazz colors and cinematic touches.
The Sunset Kings actively perform in the Northeast. Their song “Symphony Blues” received accolades in the 2017 International Songwriting Competition, and is available on every music platform. Their song “Die For You” also earned them a Finalist spot in the GINA Missing Persons Foundation Songwriting Contest, which brought the band to Hollywood to perform on live TV at Kulak’s Woodshed. They have recently released their debut album The Ballad of Bella Fury which is set to create a new wave. In promotion of the record, they have completed an independent tour with International Pop Songstress, Miu Haiti, playing venues as far as Las Vegas and Chicago.
Despite the non-conventional arrangements of their music, they have managed to make it appealing to a public of all ages, their latest Music Video “You Are the Ocean” garnering over 16K views and a wide-ranging audience.
Drawing comparisons to The Doors for their use of poetry, The Mars Volta for their progressive style of rock and fusion, Snarky Puppy for their use of jazz colors, Bruno Mars for his pop vocal delivery, and even The Beach Boys for their West Coast-inspired lyricism and attention to melody---The Sunset Kings' debut album is the tension and chemistry of seven friends living together in close quarters, propelled by the hustle of music in a city growing fast under the influence of progressive hip-hop and contemporary poetry.
Music critic Bill Copeland calls their debut LP, The Ballad of Bella Fury, “a powerful ... [and] promising start”, “taking prog rock to a higher level. Its inclusion of saxophone and violin allow for colors, tones, and textures not usually found in those playing complex rock song structures.”
The Ballad of Bella Fury began in a hotel room in Laguna Beach, scrawled on a notepad one summer night in 2012. It's about cross-country road trips, alcohol-driven nights on the beach, and the heartbreak rollercoaster of love, hate, and self-discovery that leads to seven friends from all across North America brought together in Boston by the struggles and highs of music.
Distorted guitars, improvisational saxophone melodies, and sweeping string arrangements punctuate a story about coming of age in a world that's getting smaller and farther removed from its origins.
