Starting out as a 'trad jazz' outfit, The Mike Cotton Jazzmen appeared in the 1962 film, 'The Wild and the Willing'. They enjoyed their only chart entry, 'Swing That Hammer', which hit#36 in the United Kingdom in May 1963, before adapting to the beat era as The Mike Cotton Sound in early 1964. With the name change came a change in style, their new sound being a proto-psychedelic brand of beat. In 1967 the band teamed up with former U.S. serviceman Bruce Lucas and recorded three singles under the moniker Lucas with The Mike Cotton Sound. Read more on Last.fm.
