Mar Project is the result of pooled artistic energies to create music for other artists, actors, film directors, dancers, singers and musicians. M.P. believes that music simply records human lives; therefore, it should be spontaneous and accidental. M.P. aspires to be open to sounds from any source for its recordings.
Mar Project was conceived by Hiroshi Kono in 2001. The initial concept was to make simple, yet melodic songs with only classical guitars and vocals in various languages to optimize the unique characteristics of the language.
When Mar Project started working on music compositions for Wilson Loria's theatrical piece, "To The Winners," it rectified the original idea by adding musical instruments to broaden its sounds to make it more suitable to the theater.
The 7-track CD entitled "To The Winners / Mar Project" was released in June, 2003. Wilson has been performing in many theaters in the U.S. and Brazil and is planning to perform worldwide in different languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish and French.
In April, 2004, Mar Project completed its 2nd CD, "Mar Project I." This album features ten songs in three different languages - English, Italian and Portuguese. The combination of a sweet classical guitar sound and linguistic variations reveals the marvelous Mar Project musical world- nostalgic, classical, haunting- which is rarely found in contemporary music.
In the fall of 2004, Hiroshi and Roger Fife embarked on new recordings all of which were written and sung in English by Hiroshi. The music production was primarily done by Roger. In April , 2006, the 1st single, "Run," featuring the remix of the title track by Tarot, was released and "Run -Remixes" was also digitally released in February, 2007.
The latest album, "Stepping Stone," (September, 2007) was produced by Roger Fife and all the songs were written and sung by Hiroshi Kono. In addition, two remixes of the opening track, "Beacon," featuring Tarot were released from Mar Trax Records in October, 2008. Hiroshi (a.k.a. RUN) has recently participated in "TANGA with his friends" as a lyricist and its charity song called "All I Want For A Christmas Day" was released in December, 2008. Read more on Last.fm.
