Composer, conductor, trombonist and educator Ed Neumeister, has been composing and leading his quartet since 1978. The current Ed Neumeister Quartet (Fritz Pauer - piano, Drew Gress - bass, John Hollenbeck - drums) has been together more than 5 years. As a composer, Neumeister has received commissions from all over the world including the Metropol Orkest in The Netherlands, Hamburg Radio Big Band in Germany, Maribor Opera Orchestra in Slovenia, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra in New York, Milky Saxophone Quintet in Paris France, Sophisticated Ellington Project in Tokyo, Japan and many others.

Neumeister freely mixes the styles of classical, jazz and world music in his compositions. He has recieved three NEA foundation Grants and a Grammy Award Nomination for an arrangement of "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" for the Mel Lewis Orchestra in 1992.

As a trombonist Neumeister performed for 15 years in the Duke Ellington Orchestra conducted by Mercer Ellington, for 19 years with the (Thad Jones)/Mel Lewis Orchestra (which became the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra), Jerry Garcia, Gerry Mulligan among many others. He has also performed with the New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony and Ballet and many other orchestras in San Francisco and New York areas.

Since 1992, Ed has been touring extensively as a soloist and with his ensembles: The Ed Neumeister Quartet and The NeuHat Ensemble, mostly in Europe where he holds a professorship in Graz, Austria.

Ed Neumeister has recorded 8 CDs (the latest two through the ArtistShare model) as a leader including a concerto for cello and big band, modern "third stream" orchestras, trombone quartet, chamber trio and jazz quartet and quintet.
