Murat Keyder was born in 1986 in Istanbul to a Turkish father and an American mother. He started learning both guitar and oud at a young age, learning several different styles of western music and Turkish music to an equal degree. He moved to America when he was 16, and currently lives in Philadelphia. His music is largely improvisational, blending aspects of Turkish and Western music as well many world music styles such as Indian music that have deeply influenced his musical thinking.
