What Pete says . . .


In Melbourne in 1997 I recorded my first demo, a 10-track cassette called 'Big Planes and Empty Pockets'. At that time a good friend of mine Sacha Molitorisz, a journalist with the Sydney Morning Herald, decided to set up a record label. He listened to my demo and shhh records was born.

So in 1998 I set about recording my first album, 'My Great Plan'. The Sydney Morning Herald said, "...a man ahead of his time" and gave it 4/5, I'm still proud of that album. In 2000 I released 'Inside Upstairs'. It had more instrumentation and the song writing had developed. Juice Magazine claimed it was "...sure to be one of the best Australian releases of 2000". I picked up a song-writing award for the tune 'Melt Away' at the West Australian Music Industry Awards, some more good press and kept on touring.

Then I moved back to Perth and put a band together, Pete Stone and the Assistance. We released the album 'Home' in 2002 and the EP 'Domino' in 2004. Xpress magazine chipped in saying "Pete Stone is bound to follow in the footsteps of other Aussie greats..."


In September 2006 I released 'Golden Frontier' on a new label, Karmic Hit. recorded with birilliant multi-instrumentalist Tony Lane, award winning vocalist Kate Kelly, Ben Franz from The Waifs, Alex Archer from Kill Devil Hills and Jean-Guy Lemire, this is the album I have wanted to make for years.
