One way of looking at it is that the bones of the Ghetto formed in late 2007, as 4 lovely lads came together to grab the musical bull by the horns, riding it that way for some time, only to later find that it had reins all along... Ignoring these, they continued to clutch said horns, and ride on that but different...
The first half of 2009 saw the pace taking a frantic step up in the Ghetto Amaretto camp, with the band causing a stir playing a series of gigs at Corks reputable Cyprus Avenue, as well as Waterford’s The Forum and Electric Avenue, while, along the way, a one off show in the world famous Spiegletent took place, as it stopped off on Irish Shores. All this before entering into a two month “down-time” which was more than hectic - seeing the band putting finishing touches to their first music video for their song “Lights” ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvyNt34yOls ). In between takes, the group recorded their sopohmore e.p., as well as their soon to be released debut single "Savio". The summer that saw all this went on to culminate in what were explosive slots at the Plaza Stage for the famed Waterford Spraoi Festival, as well as at Tramore's Kavfest - resulting in the band also being asked to bethe specialguest performers for the festival's afterparty.
September then saw a (second)Home-coming gig in Cork's Cyprus Avenue to rave applause - while they're to headline Waterford's the Forum's favourite indie-Club "Traffik"'s Third Birthday in November. Away from the live scene they see their e.p. and single launchs in the pipeworks - while the band also branched out into their first run of merchandise.
E.P. 2 sees a more focused, and self-concious song writing, with more hooks than you have space for. Check back soon for more info. on the lanuch date, and title.
Their debut E.P. entitled 'Gravitate Grooves' was received with extremely positive reviews from, among others, 'Hotpress' and 'Plugged In.ie'. The band has performed support slots for international recognised bands such as the Frank and Walters, 'Fighting With Wire' and 'The Funeral Suits' as well as playing multiple gigs with fellow well recognised groups including O Emperor, Gorbachov, and Floyd Soul & The Wolf.
Still unsure??! Read these testimonials, y'all;
“Ghetto Amaretto play with style, confidence and a sense of exuberant joy at the very idea that they can make such a terrific noise” - Jackie Hayden of Hot Press...
“My writing turned into scribbles as I bopped and moved my feet along with funkiness... There was serious quality attached to this, I realised that I was not listening to just another band but a band that I would predict could go places... This four piece of great young musicians are a credit to the Waterford music scene. Ghetto Amaretto are certainly a band that have a future and they have already been recognised by Hotpress for the First Cuts Clinic.” - Pluggedin.ie Review of Ghetto Amaretto gig...
“The Local Buzz Band... With a sound based on the tight dynamics of dance music, and the power of rock, Ghetto Amaretto command a melodic groove that every bum can shake to. Though with a celebrated debut e.p., the band has been noted to come into their own in the live, where the energy of the two genres they mix shine” – The Munster Express... “A good, young, pretty and smart gang of people, full of life and up for fun. A very processed and full sound and a few killer choruses, one of which was the bravest I've heard attempted in a long while.” - Metro Alternative Nite Club Review...
“ Their sound immediately reminded me of alt. rock giants Muse, Death From Above 1979 and Biffy Clyro. With these similarities it was easy to see why they have been selected for the last 8 of Hot Press first cut clinics. It is clear this quartet are not afraid to experimenting musically, while the bases for their songs hold similarities with some of the great alternative rock out today, their combined finished product gives a sound that is completely their own. If not the flawless falsetto or exhilarating effects of the guitarist, it's the groovy distorted bass or constant stomping drums that churn away at the back to drive their songs. With their own distinctive sound that will have you unsure whether to mosh or dance to, experimental dance rockers Ghetto Amaretto are clearly ones to watch.” - Pluggedin.ie, on Gravitate Grooves, the debut E.P....
