Maria Mazzotta (born 1982 in Lecce) is an Italian singer. She is considered a representative of the world music genre.

Maria Mazzotta completed classical musical training as a pianist and harpist at the Lecce Conservatory, then concentrated on singing and traditional music and studied the musical traditions of Greece, Albania, Macedonia, Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria and the Roma.

She sings in the Salento dialect. From 2000 to 2014 she was a member of the ensemble Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, recorded six albums with this formation and was invited to major festivals throughout Europe and has a diverse repertoire.

She has worked with artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Ibrahim Maalouf, Rita Marcotulli, Ballaké Sissoko, Roy Paci, Roberto Ottaviano and Bijan Chemirani. With the Albanian cellist Redi Hasa she formed the duo Hasa-Mazzotta, with whom she released several albums.

In 2020, Agualoca Records released the solo album Amoreamaro with ten tracks - accompanied on the accordion by Bruno Galeone from Madagascar. It reached number 3 on the World Music Charts Europe. It reached number 9 on the Transglobal World Music Charts. Mazzotta presented the album in a streaming concert in July 2020 at the Haapavesi Folk Music Festival in Finland. The central component of the album are new interpretations of the song Tu non mi piaci più, which became a hit by Gabriella Ferri, Lu pisci spada by Domenico Modugno, or Rosa canta e cunta, a song by Rosa Balistreri. The counterpart were two new songs, sung in the dialect of their homeland, Nu me lassare [Don't leave me] and amore/amaro [Bitter Love], the title song in the pizzica style.

Maria Mazzotta lives in Salento and in the French Pyrenees. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
