No Regret Life was a Japanese rock band formed in January 2001 in Kanoya, Kagoshima Prefecture.

Members:
Vocals & Guitar: 小田和奏 (Kazusou Oda) (now known as "Coda")
Bass: 松村元太 (Genta Matsumura)
Drums & Backing vocals: 橋口竜太 (Ryūta Hashiguchi)

Former members:
Bass: 下苅由香 (Yuka Shimokariya)

Early years
Founding members were Kazusou Oda (vocals, guitar) and Ryuuta Hashiguchi (drums, backing vocals). Shortly after, Yuka Shimokariya joined on bass but was later replaced by Genta Matsumura.
In their first years, the band played mainly around Kagoshima, performing local shows to build a following. Their debut album Tomorrow Is the Another Day was released in November 2002, followed by a national tour in 2003, including a show with ELLEGARDEN in May.

Rise to prominence
In 2004 they released the mini-album My Life, My Song, My Mind, marking a transition toward a more mature sound. In February 2005, they signed with Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Records and released their first major-label single, メロディー (Melody).
Their best-known track, 失くした言葉 (Nakushita Kotoba), came out in June 2005 and was used as an ending theme for the anime Naruto, giving the band broad recognition.
The following year they released their first full studio album Sign (2006), solidifying their place in Japan’s alternative rock scene. This was followed by Allegro (2007) and Wheels of Fortune (2008).

Later years and disbandment
In July 2010, No Regret Life founded their own label, Spiral-Motion. Bassist Genta Matsumura left the group in December 2012, citing exhaustion. After discussions among the members, they decided to end the band’s activities together. Their final live tour in July 2013 marked the official disbandment.

Legacy
No Regret Life represented a generation of Japanese rock bands that grew organically through live performance and word-of-mouth, outside Tokyo’s major label system. Their blend of melodic rock and emotional sincerity earned them a devoted following among fans of 2000s Japanese rock.

Style and musical influences
No Regret Life’s sound blends emotional, guitar-driven rock with melodic sensibility and a raw live energy that reflects their roots in Japan’s independent scene. Their music often revolves around themes of resilience, nostalgia, and personal struggle, carried by Kazusō Oda’s warm, expressive vocals.

Influenced by 1990s and early-2000s alternative rock, their style draws clear lines to Japanese contemporaries like Asian Kung-Fu Generation and BUMP OF CHICKEN, while showing traces of Western acts such as Nirvana and Foo Fighters in their dynamics and tone.

Rather than relying on studio polish, No Regret Life built their identity through straightforward songwriting and intense live performances. Even in their quieter songs, there’s an undercurrent of urgency, a sense that the band was always reaching for something just out of reach.

Activities of the members after disbanding
Kazusou Oda is active solo. He continues performing under his own name (also as “Coda”), has released new music e.g. the nomad e.p. (2025) and is doing live acoustic tours. He is known for his involvement in openings for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
