Brenda Nicole Moorer (born Brenda Bernadette Nicole Moorer on May 14, 1986) is an American singer and songwriter who released her debut album 'Songbird' in November 2011. Brenda Nicole Moorer was named Atlanta's Best kept Secret.

Brenda Nicole Moorer was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to working middle class parents, and is the third of four children. She began her musical career at school where she studied piano at the age of 8, then violin at the age of 12. She began singing quietly in her bedroom, recording little melodies and songs on an old tape recorder. Brenda comes from a musical family and states she was shy about singing in the beginning, "I would lock myself in my room with my Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey tapes, quietly recording my own versions of their songs on my tape recorder.I sort of gave myself my own vocal lessons, recording my voice over and over until I sounded like the tapes I was listening to. I didn't want anyone to hear me until I felt ready, so I kept quiet." Brenda's grandfather and grand uncles make up the 60's group The Esquires. She accredits her love for music being instilled in her by family.

Brenda's father was an aspiring singer, and Brenda often sat with him as a little girl, watching him write songs on piano. he would have Brenda learn the songs and sing them for him. But, it wasn't until Brenda was 11 years old when she would open her mouth to sing for her whole family, and when she did the support of her family was gained immediately.

Brenda's father bought her her first guitar at age 12, and enrolled her in Dekalb School of Performing Arts where she could really hone in on her skills. By age 13, Brenda had made her way into Dave Hollister's girl group NIA. She found herself performing along side some industry best. She accredits Dave Hollister with teaching her how to sing in the studio and be a perfectionist. Brenda eventually parted from the group, but had set the foundation for her music career.

After separating from the group, Brenda signed with indie label MAPP Records out of London. On the label she really got to focus on her writing skills, and worked with some great writers like Keisha Miles. In 2001, Brenda released the single 'Shy Boy' under the stage name Niko. The single did very well and reached #2 on UK club charts.

As Brenda reached her teens, she became heavily influenced by jazz and alternative folk pop music, which would eventually define her sound as an artist. Brenda was influenced by Billie Holiday, Natalie Cole, Ani Franco, Alanis Morsiette, Fiona Apple, among others. Brenda states "I was influenced by such a wide variety of music, but its all apparent in my sound."

In 2006, Brenda released Songbird EP, a 6 song collection she had written and composed on guitar. The EP created a name for her around Atlanta, and opened up doors to meet all the people who have been especially critical in her career.

In 2008, Brenda graduated with a degree in marketing and says, "While in school for business, I always cursed my choice not to study music. But, as I've become an indie artist, I am certain my business degree is the most helpful tool I've obtained. You have to be your own business when your indie, and school taught me how."

In 2011, Brenda released Songbird the Album, an 11 track collection of songs that describe her journey as an artist and show her artistic growth over 6 years. The album was released on her indie label Yellow orchid Records, and she plans to begin touring in 2012.
