Choral group having great recognition due to its high professional level. Founded in 1993, under the professor Alina Orraca`s conduction. This chorus, belonging to the National Center of Concert Music from the Cuban Institute of Music is formed by professors, pupils and non-professional lovers of music.
The Schola Cantorum Coralina boasts a wide repertoire of choral music, performing all sorts of styles, since the Renaissance until the contemporary music, even Cuban or from overseas places.

Its programs make an ample diffusion of Cuban and Latin American choral music, popular and folkloric coming from original works of composers from the region and those approaching sacred music.

Coralina has offered diverse concerts, attending festivals, congresses, fairs, exhibitions in Cuba. Its high quality is internationally recognized, performing at major scenes in Venezuela, Brazil and Spain, among others.

Memorable national events have been its performances in the 1998 Mass Cantata headed by S.S Juan Pablo II at the Revolution Square José Martí in Havana and in the Chants from the Celebration of the Word Liturgy, headed by S.S Juan Pablo II at the Havana Cathedral.
Other important performances were the 1999 Cubadisco Festival where Schola joined an important group of popular musicians and the singing of Cantata ''Carmina Burana'' by Carl Orff together with the National Symphonic Orchestra conducted by Leo Brower in May, 2000.

The choral work with children is one of the most significant branches of this remarkable group, which also started in 1993 with the project Cantorías de Coralina, conducted also by professor Alina Orraca propitiating the emergency of a wide national movement of children cantatas, developing annual festivals under the name of ''Cantándole al sol''

All this made possible in November 2003 the creation of a Chorus for Children and Youngsters, which members are chosen taking into account their musical qualities and their ages running from 6 to 14 years, among the Cantorías`attendees.

Schola Cantorum Coralina has an important discography taking a privileged position “De que cantada manera”and “Cánteme” CDs with songs by the peerless Silvio Rodríguez. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
