Sparky Deathcap is the solo project of Rob Taylor, a singer, songwriter and musician from Cheshire. Since 2010, Taylor has also been a member of the Cardiff, Wales-based indie band Los Campesinos!

Sparky Deathcap was founded in the early 00s, with much of his music published onto Myspace. The only song remaining from this era is Cosmic Love Infection. In 2005, he released the Nosebleed on the 99 EP, however only half of the track list is known.

Taylor was approached by Geoff Mendelson (a.k.a. Kÿmi) in 2006, with Mendelson inviting Taylor to his record label 'Pulsar Music'. Taylor would then send Mendelson 23 songs and a sketch for an album cover, which would end up becoming Sparky Deathcap's first (and, as of June 2025, only) album 'Let's Build a Fire' in early 2007.

After the album released, Taylor continued making music, touring with the likes of Daniel Johnston and Los Campesinos!, as well as preforming a comedy ukulele rock opera - Misty and Candarel in early 2009. He also created his own music label, known as Nettlejam, under which he released the Tear Jerky in late 2009. He officially joined Los Campesinos! in 2010, as well as releasing a few more songs on Myspace over the next few years - notably B-Roads - before putting Sparky Deathcap on hold officially in 2013.

In 2022, the song September from the Tear Jerky EP went viral on short-form video sharing site TikTok, which caused Sparky Deathcap to return to solo music. He released a fully remastered version of September on streaming services in early 2023 under Sony Music Entertainment, accompanying the announcement of a fully remastered version of Tear Jerky.

Later in 2023, a group of fans compiled the 12 excluded tracks from Let's Build a Fire into the unofficial Let's Build a Fire Outtracks compilation. Sparky Deathcap would release Winter City Ghosts (another track from the remastered Tear Jerky) on the Heart Swells label (owned by Los Campesinos!), before releasing the full EP on the 1st of December.

In a Reddit Ask-Me-Anything promoting Los Campesinos!'s seventh album, All Hell, Taylor revealed that an EP containing B-Roads would be released at some point in 2025, with even more music on the way after that.
