DEZERT is a Japanese visual kei band formed in September 2011, initially under the name And Emily, then Acid Cherry King, before becoming DEZERT. Vocalist Chiaki (千秋) and bassist SaZ (later known as Sacchan) formed the original lineup, which expanded to include guitarist Miyako and drummer SORA. The band is known for its dark, intense music, focusing on themes of human pain, struggle, and the grotesque aspects of life.
DEZERT's early years saw limited promotion as they focused on cultivating their sound, a fusion of metal, and hardcore elements. Their initial works include the debut single “Boku no Himitsu to Reizouko” (2012), and they continued to evolve with releases like Okusei Nōmiso Zetsurin Sūpu Sei Kurīmu Shitate in 2013 and Seishinkai (kyoshokushō) no snuff film-shū in 2014. In 2015, guitarist Kira departed, with Miyako officially joining later that year. This lineup shift preceded the release of Saiko no Shokutaku, delayed to January 2016.
The band's evolution continued in 2018 when they signed with MAVERICK, a subsidiary of Danger Crue. This shift marked a stylistic change toward softer, more melodic music, departing from their aggressive beginnings. That year, they released the album TODAY, featuring the singles “Ohayō” and “Oyasumi.” They followed with black hole in 2019, an album exploring Chiaki's personal struggles with self-perception, leading to a thematic shift that highlighted introspection over raw aggression.
In addition to headlining tours, DEZERT collaborated with Mucc in 2019, releasing the single "Mushishi/Gachagachamukumuku" as part of their co-headlining tour. Their involvement in visual kei festivals, such as the Cure magazine's World Visual Festival, further expanded their influence within Japan and internationally.
Following the release of singles like "Your Song" in 2020 and the album Rainbow in 2021, DEZERT maintained a reputation for boundary-pushing music and complex lyrical themes. In 2023, they announced their first major label album release with Nippon Crown, scheduled for January 2024, alongside a major tour culminating in a headlining show at the Nippon Budokan, marking a significant milestone in their career.
