She has one of Norway´s strongest signature voices and is the leading lady of one of the most exciting new acts on the music scene – Highasakite.
Highasakite is currently doing the finishing touches to their new album set for release early next year. In the meantime, we can enjoy the solo album from lead vocalist Ingrid Helene Håvik.
Babylove is out November 1st 2013 on Propeller Recordings.
”She sings in a muted alto voice that has this no-bullshit quality, like she’s raising an eyebrow at you as you try to feed her a line.” – CMJ 2013 review
Higasakite´s debut album “All That Floats Will Rain” gave the Norwegian indie-pop quintet a Norwegian Grammy nomination and standing ovations from both press and public. The band soon caught the attention of international media and has spent the last year touring Europe and the US, visiting Berlin Music Week, Iceland Airwaves, Eurosonic, SXSW, The Great Escape, Tallinn Music Week, Roskilde, SPOT festival, Reeperbahn Festival and many, many more.
Along the way, the band secured a solid team around them, with labels, bookers, promoters and supporters.
While producing material to Highasakite´s sophomore album, Ingrid Helene Håvik wrote numerous songs. Along the process, it soon became quite evident that not all of these songs were fit for Highasakite, yet they were too good to let go.
Parallel to recording the album for Highasakite, Ingrid Helene Håvik teamed up with a set of brilliant musicians, travelled to the remote island of Giske on the west coast of Norway, and to Ocean Sound Studio to record what had to be a solo album.
“I got the feeling that these songs didn’t really suit Highaskite, with an over-all theme that didn´t match what I see as going to be central on the new Highasakite album we are about to do.
I really wanted to develop these songs with a slightly different sound and I happened to have some “left over” studio time at Ocean Sound. The result is a solo album I am very proud of.”
Under the name Ingrid, the self produced album “Babylove” will be released November 1st, followed by a release concert at Parkteatret in Oslo November 13th.
