Masimba is the band led by Boniface Thande made up of members of the Bakawola Foundation.
Boniface has been performing in Nairobi, Mombasa and other towns in Kenya for over 20 years. He was born in Nakuru and moved to Nairobi when he was young. He started performing in Church when he was only 7 years old. These days he can be found writing songs and practicing at the Kenya National Theatre and performing in pubs around Nairobi during the evening. He makes his living by performing traditional and original compositions to Kenyans. He also teaches guitar. He has recorded several of his own compositions with local and international artists.
Boniface draws his style from many blends of music. He performs country music classics, authentic Gikuyu Mugithi music, Abaluhya, Luo…Infact he says "I have a song from every tribe" because "I never may know who my audience may be." Such a unique blend is concocted strictly within his guitar work. When the band Masimba comes together of course a good dose of reggae for the people is added to that blend. Masimba is a living East African folk anthology.
