Static Signals (formerly Out of Reach), a self-described rock/pop/alternative band from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, was formed in the summer of 2006 by Pat and Simon, two guitarists looking to jam. They created a logo, email address, and PureVolume account, and in the fall of 2006 approached Nick, who agreed to join on drums. Soon after their close friend Taylor joined on bass. Still looking for a singer, Simon approached Danielle in the middle of English class. The band clicked and got off to a good start. On December 21, 2006, Out of Reach performed two songs at the Gisele-Lalonde Battle of the Bands, including a kickass French cover of eXterio's Bonhomme 7h. They won the Battle, but never received the prize (the judges had promised a box of doughnuts). Positive feedback from the show encouraged the band members to stay together and start practicing seriously once a week. They worked on originals, and covers by bands such as Silverstein and Taking Back Sunday. In April 2007, Danielle left the band, and a series of auditions were scheduled to find a new lead singer. Alex Action was the first to audition, and the band was so impressed with her talent that they immediately offered her the job, and the members eagerly went to work writing and recording new material. They played Greenfield’s Pub on June 10th, 2007, and the show was a huge success; the band won the first-place $200 prize for “Best Draw and Audience Reaction.” Following the show, the band (now called Static Signals) recorded its first song – Centuries Under Fire – and posted it on MySpace and PureVolume. During the summer of 2007 Static Signals doubled their weekly rehearsal time, and worked hard on many new songs. Two more live shows followed in quick succession. The band played Mavericks in July, and was immediately invited back for an August gig. Both shows were well attended by a loyal and growing fan base. Static Signals was becoming tighter, more energetic and polished with every live show.
