Something Clicked and I Fell off the Edge Lyrics

When I was younger I felt so pure
I didn't know corruption waited for me
I tried to duck, I tried to freeze
Tried to bury my head in the sand

But the sand it turned to mud
And in the mud is where I got stuck
But the sand it turned to mud
And in the mud is where I got stuck

I've seen the older men who smelt like booze
[Incomprehensible] in their clothes
How could they face the morning
With their life and teeth in a mess

I tried cigarettes, I tried booze
I tried tip-ex and I tried glue
All my feelings and morals are wrong
'Cause all the chemicals that I have done

They turn them on and off
They turn them on and off

I need a cigarette
I need a drink
I need a cigarette
I need a drink

Something clicked and I fell off the edge
I bashed my head again and again
I lost myself in life's of shame
How could I face the morning clawing up at me?

I need a cigarette
I need a drink
I need a cigarette
I need a drink

I need a cigarette
I need a drink
I need a cigarette
I need a drink

The Rakes were a four piece indie rock band hailing from London. Releasing their debut album Capture/Release in 2005, The Rakes were the talk of the Reading and Leeds Festival after joining forces with Indie elites such as Bloc Party and Maxïmo Park in the NME Tent.
They recently released their third album Klang which included the singles 1989 and That's the Reason.

On 2009, The Rakes announced that the band was to split with immediate effect: "The Rakes have always been very adamant and proud of the fact that we give 100% to every gig we’ve ever played. If we can’t give it everything then we won’t do it. That was the rule we set ourselves from day one".

Their style can be described as "lo-fi" indie and is vaguely reminiscent of early Joy Division with some catchy guitar riffs and intelligent and humorous lyrics.
