1) The Cosmos was an indie/emo band from Redwood City, CA.
In summer of 2001, Becalmed Records in England released a Split 7" with Lorna (Nottingham, UK) and Corey Cunningham under the moniker The Cosmos. Then in September, The Cosmos started in a storage space. It was Jerry Guitierrez on drums, Phil Benson on bass and singing, and Corey on guitar and singing. They threw together some songs over the next three months and recorded with East Bay engineering legend Bart Thurber in early 2002.
By the time their debut album was released, they had gained another guitar player, RW Lynch. They played their first show on Wednesday Night Live, KZSU Stanford's weekly feature of independent bands. After several shows around the Bay Area, The Cosmos went back into the studio with Bart Thurber to start the recording of what would become thier second album, "Armando: I Came Here But by What Brought Me Here".
It was around this time they enlisted Noah Brodsky as a multi-instrumentalist to fill out their sound. The now 5-piece post-poppers ushered in the New Year with the honor of being chosen as "Critic's Pick" by the SF Bay Guardian and a legendarily sloppy performance at Edinburgh Castle.
In November 2003 they finally released the long-awaited "Armando", a loose album full of thick guitars, lush keyboards, and pensive songwriting. Their last show, as of this date, was in August of 2004 in Redwood City.
Currently Jerry is drumming in Life Without and the other three guys are play in Magic Bullets.
