Grand Motel is a rock group that formed in Ottawa, Ontario with members hailing from Toronto, Ottawa and Sudbury. They are three different musicians each with a wide range of influences, extensive studio and live performance experience. They are a writing team that has spent many years polishing their craft to create a sound suitable to a live stage and radio audience. With a combination of strong driving rock rhythms, a tasteful sensitivity and a heavy 1990’s influence, Grand Motel with its layered hooks and balanced style believe that a good song will always transcend the times.

The summer of 2009 saw the members of Grand Motel Jarrett Lee (vocals/guitar), Justin Trudeau (lead guitar) and Jamie Urie (drums) recording their first studio effort as a group. Recorded in Montreal at Studio Base Bin with talented Producer Albert Chambers at the helm and Manager/Executive Producer Phil Castro behind the scenes ‘The Documentary EP’ was born. The journey from Ottawa to Montreal was well worth it in experience, pushing the band toward the sound they had always been searching for. Countless studio hours, a bicycle-ride in the rain and one too many visits to Le Biftek Bar later, the sound eventually arrived.

The trips back and forth between their home in the Nation’s Capital and Montreal were in many was a defining experience. Stunning and overwhelming St. Laurent Boulevard in the heart of the Plateau neighbourhood on warm summer days pulsated life through the veins of Grand Motel. It was a non-refundable experience that became the beat resonating in the music. The wait has been long but it’s been well worth it. Grand Motel was born and ‘The Documentary EP’ became the first steps in their journey.

Just like the name Grand Motel suggests, the music of this group offers unexpected comfort and refuge to those that find themselves journeying on life's spiritual highway and trying to cope with the alienation and misunderstanding that is often a backdrop of that journey. Close to the exit and easy to find an affordable Motel; they are travelers themselves and their music is about being on your own journey and seeking your own destination.
