Copied from the band's myspace:
It all started as an idea. When long-time high school friends Ryan Shellhorn, Robbie Martin, and Logan Groves joked around about starting a band, they never imagined that months later they would be playing for countless crowds, and opening for some of their favourite bands. Dead Winter started with five dudes, with a whole bunch of different musical tastes, who came together to start something different, and give the scene a kick in the ass. Coming right out of the gate, they began playing as many shows as possible, spreading their music to anyone who would listen.
In March of 2007, they took some time off, and recorded four rough tracks in their jam-house. From there, they've always worked on perfecting their craft. Since then, Dead Winter have been surprising and impressing audiences with their unique blend of progressive metalcore. Although they have been compared to such bands like "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Dream Theater", they strive to go against the grain, writing and performing anything that sounds good to them.
The boys have played numerous shows throughout Eastern Ontario, and in their native Ottawa, Ontario. The members put an emphasis on an interactive stage show, and give it their all whenever they hit the stage. Always expect some good times and a few lame jokes on stage. Along the way, Dead Winter has the pleasure of sharing the stage with heavy hitters like: Dead and Divine (Rise Records), The Holly Springs Disaster (Underground Operations), Farewell to Freeway (Victory Records), Arise and Ruin (Victory Records), Camilla Rhodes, The Fully Down, among many many more.
Dead Winter start 2008 with a whole lot of ambition. Building off the momentum from the past few months, they are heading back into the studio with producer Dean Hadji (The Fully Down, Four Year Strong, A Dying Race) to finish of their debut release. Shooting for a spring release, the band is excited to build their fanbase, and play as many shows as possible. Look out for these guys in 2008, as they'll probably be in your town sometime soon.
