New Collisions is a rock/pop band formed in Cambridge, MA, United States in 2009.
New Collisions are a chaotic blend of mod, post-punk and new wave. Nine months, a hundred-plus shows, and one very well-received EP later, they have toured/opened for Blondie, The B-52s, Owl City, and Missing Persons, received major national features, showcased at CMJ and SXSW, and collaborated with new-wave legend Greg Hawkes of The Cars.
The band started unexpectedly. Lead-singer Sarah Guild and guitarist Scott Guild, meeting their musical soulmates in Alex Stern and Zak Kahn of Britpop wunderkinds The Sterns, began swapping songs. Casey Gruttadauria, previously an afrobeat keyboardist, decided to construct a colossal rig of four synths, full-sized organ and keyboard. Bands like The Jam, The Clash, Pulp, The Pixies, Missing Persons, The Cars, Television (et al) were discussed; sessions were booked; everyone argued about their favorite Bowie album; shows began to sell out. Soon tours and articles were appearing.
Whether on television, radio, or in their mostly live recordings, TNC makes a big bright sound for a dark strange world. The lyrics are twisted, surreal, and angry, the choruses deceptively simple, the live show restless and erratic. Sarah's voice, huge and classically trained, soars over the turbulent arrangements.
Just back from their first visit to SXSW, the band has entered the studio with the legendary Ft. Apache production team of Paul Kolderie and Sean Slade (Pixies, Radiohead, Dinosaur Jr., Hole). Their debut LP is available now. Stay tuned. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
